From professional musicians and music educators to passionate amateurs, the North Myrtle Beach Community Band brings people together through a shared love of making music.

Each season, from mid-September through late May, the band presents four public concerts that attract audiences of 450 to 750 people. What began with approximately 20 musicians has grown into a core ensemble of about 85 players, joined by 5 to 10 “snowbird” musicians during the winter months. Members come from communities stretching from Shallotte, North Carolina, to Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, as well as Conway, Carolina Forest, Loris, and Lumberton. With musicians ranging in age from 17 to 80+, the band truly represents the broad and diverse community it serves. 

The North Myrtle Beach Community Band is more than a concert ensemble. Throughout its history, the band has embraced opportunities to give back through music, including the dedication of War Bird Park at the site of the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base, performances for a summer program at Coastal Carolina University, weekend band clinics for adult musicians, and most recently a pair of joint concerts, one in Myrtle Beach and one in Asheville, NC with the Asheville Community Band.

While the band rehearses at North Myrtle Beach High School, it performs at venues in both Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach, and continues to reach beyond these homes in search of new audiences along the Grand Strand.

The band members bring an extraordinary range of experiences and professions. The make up of the band includes people working in law, engineering, education, graphic arts, retail, medicine, and many other fields, alongside musicians with undergraduate and advanced degrees in music. Yet, when they take their seats, titles and professions take a back seat to a common passion: making music together. The unique combination of ages, training, backgrounds, professions, and interests is one of the North Myrtle Beach Community Band’s greatest strengths.

The North Myrtle Beach Community Band is proof that music has no age limit, no professional requirement, and no boundaries. It is a place where generations meet, communities connect, and people come together simply because they love to make music.
